In 2005, I won a competition to create a water garden for Hampton Court 2005, on behalf of Anglo Aquarium Plant Company Ltd. Anglo Aquarium grows the most amazing aquatic plants and I wanted to ensure that the garden reflected that.
The result was a beautiful ‘Asian fusion’ water garden, inspired by the Chinese martial arts film ‘Hero’. The garden combined many elements – a sweeping timber and gravel path, a large pool, a decked island and a pretty pavilion – but the end result was a stunningly simple garden in which the aquatic planting starred.
The garden won an RHS Gold medal – one of very few among the large Show Gardens and Water Gardens that year. It was also awarded the Tudor Rose for Best Water Garden in Show.
